Free Oral Cancer Screenings offered at Randolph Health Cancer Center

ASHEBOROClose to 48,250 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause over 9,575 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. These cancers affect the mouth and throat and mortality rates are high because oral cancers are typically found in the later stages of the disease. This is why on Thursday, August 23rd, a free oral cancer screening from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. will be conducted at Randolph Cancer Center located at 373 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro.

Drs. Marina Bonaventura and William Milner will examine participants’ gums, mouth, salivary glands, tongue and lips for signs of various oral cancers. People who are experiencing sores or lesions in the mouth, thickening of the cheeks or white/red patches in the mouth should register for this free oral screening.

Often these cancers develop because of prolonged alcohol or tobacco use, a poor diet, Human papillomavirus (HPV), a weakened immune system, heartburn, genetic syndromes and/or work hazards. The best solution for beating oral cancers is early detection.

If you or someone you know is at risk for oral cancer, this screening is imperative. Space is limited and appointments are required. Please call 336.633.7788 to reserve a spot. You may also log on to www.randolphhealth.org to learn more about the event.
