Cone Health and Randolph Health End Merger Talks

Asheboro — After more than 15 months of due diligence and exploration, Cone Health and Randolph Health will not combine organizations.

“This was a difficult decision, but one that we believe to be in the best long-term interests of Cone Health,” says Terry Akin, CEO, Cone Health. “After much consideration, we found that combining our organizations would require that many current and future Cone Health priorities and projects would need to be scaled back or put on hold.  Cone Health’s overall strategic commitments and our current competitive environment do not give us the latitude to move forward with Randolph health at the present time.”

“While we regret we will not be fully integrated into Cone Health, they remain our management partner, and we remain committed to delivering quality healthcare to the communities we serve. Approximately a month ago, when the possibility that the integration with Cone Health might not occur, we immediately put a process in place to identify a different partner with whom to integrate.  I am pleased to say that other organizations have expressed an interest in doing just that,” says Steve Eblin, CEO, Randolph Health.
