Community Mass Casualty Exercise

ASHEBORO Randolph Health will participate in an emergency active shooter mass casualty exercise this evening involving McCrary Park, 138 Southway Rd., Asheboro and Randolph Health, 364 White Oak St., Asheboro.

Community members may see increased activity and/or hear simulated gun fire during the exercise, which is planned to test the policy and procedures Randolph Health has relating to an active shooter and mass casualty event.

The exercise will involve Asheboro City Schools, Asheboro Fire Department, Asheboro Police Department, Randolph County EMS, Randolph County 9-1-1, Randolph County Emergency Management, Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office, Randolph Community College and Triad Healthcare Preparedness Coalition.

The goals of the exercise are to improve the ability to protect citizens, save lives and reduce injuries. The exercise will allow staff and responders to evaluate emergency operations plans and improve response skills.

Periodic testing of emergency plans is required by the Joint Commission, and neither public nor patient safety will be put at risk during the exercise.

“It is very unfortunate that we must plan and practice for such possible occurrences,” said Ellie Parker, director of Business Operations & Support at Randolph Health. “However, we realize emergency exercises are essential for the safety of our community. We appreciate the collaborative efforts of our local law enforcement and emergency services agencies in making this exercise a reality. We are working together to provide a safe, uninterrupted learning environment that will enable our staff and community to be prepared in the future.”

“I want to thank the public in advance for their patience with any inconveniences they may experience this evening in the vicinity of McCrary Park and Randolph Health,” said Parker. “I also want to discourage potential panic and rumors by reassuring the public that this is an exercise planned in conjunction with law enforcement.”
