Leadership Transition at Randolph Health

ASHEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – Randolph Health has been on an extended journey exploring all options to ensure our region’s health care future because the people of Randolph County depend on local access to lifesaving, high-quality care. Under the leadership of Angela Orth, Randolph Health CEO, the future of Randolph Health and local access to health care is protected.

As CEO of Randolph Health, Orth led the health system through many extraordinary challenges including a planned bankruptcy, significant financial performance improvements leading to profitability, operational response to the
COVID-19 global pandemic, and a Mergers & Acquisition process leading to the identification of a buyer, American Healthcare Systems, LLC.   Although she had the opportunity to continue with American Healthcare Systems, LLC subsequent to the sale, Orth has decided to explore new career opportunities, which will allow her to build upon her experiences gained at Randolph Health, and will be leaving the organization on April 15th.

“I’ve had the privilege to serve Randolph Health for the past eight years, almost three as CEO, at a time when the organization was in financial turmoil. My commitment to preserve local health care and build a sustainable health care system never wavered,” said Orth. “It has been a professional highlight and an honor to do this work – and now it is time for me to pass the baton to a new leader who will continue to advance health care in our community.”

Although the buyer expressed interest in Orth remaining on as CEO under AHS, Orth has decided to explore new career opportunities.

“I was humbled by Mike Sarian’s, CEO, American Healthcare Systems Inc. desire for me to continue to lead Randolph Health. When I accepted the role as CEO of Randolph Health three years ago, my number one priority was to secure local access to health care,” said Orth. “While the journey has taken longer than expected, Randolph Health has successfully emerged with a new operator that has a plan to advance and grow health care in our region. I have the utmost gratitude to the Board of Directors, staff, physicians, volunteers and this community for trusting me to lead this organization.”

“The Board of Directors is grateful for the leadership Angie has provided to our hospital and our community. Her vision and passion for sustaining local health care speaks directly to her tenacity in achieving that goal and ensuring that this community has the care it needs and deserves for the future,” said Mack Pugh, Chair, Randolph Health Board of Directors. “Her ability to lead during a pivotal time in our history, was an inspiration to our Board, hospital staff, medical staff and our community. On behalf of the Board, I would like to sincerely thank Angie for her service and leadership.”

As Randolph Health enters into a new chapter, Tim Ford has been selected by American Healthcare Systems, LLC to lead Randolph Health upon the successful acquisition. Ford has over 30 years of executive health care experience. His expertise centers on innovative rural models of care, service line development, cost reduction strategies and successfully transforming health care organizations.

Orth and Ford will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition that continues to build on the momentum towards a bright future for the health system.

Ford’s goals are aligned with the organization in sustaining the hospital’s operations with all services currently offered, along with maintaining and investing in Randolph Health’s staff and medical group. AHS will also invest in resources and equipment to ensure long-term viability of health care services in Randolph County.

“I look forward to leading Randolph Health through this next chapter and navigating the future landscape of rural health care. Through collaboration and innovation, Randolph Health can become a sustainable health system,” said Tim Ford, incoming CEO of Randolph Health. “Continued access to local health care is my priority and I am eager to build on the great work to date to maintain and enhance services at Randolph Health well into the future.”

“We have much to be proud of at Randolph Health. We have some of the most caring, committed and skilled employees and physicians in the area. It has been a long journey to reach this point and the hard work and dedication to our patients and community has positioned Randolph Health for the future. Now is the time for new leadership to guide Randolph Health – and I know Tim is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work,” said Orth.

Randolph Health is working to finalize an agreement with American Healthcare Systems, LLC to acquire substantially all of Randolph Health’s operating assets and to oversee the new organization’s operations, working closely with the local leadership team. The goal is to finalize the purchase transaction by the end of March 2021.
