Randolph Hospital Receives Northwest NC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the CureĀ® Grant

ASHEBORO – Randolph Hospital has been awarded a $19,980 grant from the Northwest NC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to ensure that underserved women, specifically African-American, Hispanic and other minority populations, receive screening mammograms at Randolph Hospital’s Breast Center. This program is committed to helping underserved women in Randolph County obtain their annual screening mammograms at no cost.

“Thanks to the support from Komen Northwest NC Affiliate, Randolph Hospital will be able to realize our goal of providing screening mammograms to a minimum of 222 women in Randolph County at no cost to them,” said Sherry Tate, Breast Cancer Navigator, Randolph Cancer Center. “We feel that every woman, regardless of economic status, should have access to a mammogram when recommended by her physician to detect breast cancer at its earliest stage.”

Tate added, “About one in eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Overall, African- American women are more likely to die of breast cancer because of the barriers they face while fighting the disease. This grant from Komen Northwest NC Affiliate will help us remove some of the barriers these women face.”

The Breast Center at Randolph Hospital has been specifically designed to meet the needs of people concerned about breast health, breast problems and breast cancer. The Center has been accredited by the American College of Radiology in Mammography and has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
