Bob and Lisa Gfeller will give the keynote address at this year’s sports medicine symposium, put on annually by Randolph Hospital’s Human Motion Institute, for coaches and athletic trainers on August 18, at the Asheboro campus of Randolph Community College. Matthew Gfeller, Bob and Lisa’s son, was one of two North Carolina high school athletes to die from a concussion sustained during a sporting event, inspiring North Carolina’s Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act, signed into law in 2011.
In keeping with Randolph Hospital’s commitment to promoting healthy living and furthering education about proper health practices and procedures, attendees may also look forward to breakout sessions on sport-specific stretching, taping and first aid, rehab and treatment and blood borne pathogens.
